object lessons

A collection of ways to teach principles using objects.

If you've got a great object lesson let me know

leadership > blind blocks

leadership > blind blocksBring to class two identical sets of blocks (or other objects). Invite two class members to participate in the following demonstration. Give each participant a set of blocks.

Designate one class member to be the leader and the other to be the follower. Have the two class members turn their backs to each other so they cannot see each other's blocks. Have the leader quickly build something with the blocks and give directions to the follower on how to build an identical structure. Neither participant is to look at the other's blocks until the project is complete.

quench not the Spirit > candle + oxygen

The Spirit is like a candle light that gives light.   We can do things that help the Holy Ghost to be with us and we can do things that drive away or "quench" the Spirit.  1 Thes 5:19

1.  In a clear container put a couple of candles (tea-lights are ideal).  Light them.

2.  Pour a cm or so of white vinegar in the bottom.

3.  Add some bi-carbonate soda into the vinegar (being careful not to splash)

4.   Carbon di-oxide is created within the container, driving away the oxygen and quenching the candle (ie the Spirit).

* Try lighting the candle again.  You can't until the blow out the carbon di-oxide.

NB.  You probably can't light candles inside the chapel.
